WeWork is setting up shop in Jerusalem at the site of the former Talitha Kumi School on King George Street. The building, which once served as the drab home of the HaMashbir LaZarchan shopping mall, is undergoing extensive renovations to create a retail and office space.
Already a hit in Tel Aviv and Herzliya, WeWork provides a shared workspace, community, and services for entrepreneurs, freelancers, startups and small businesses. Tenants rent space on a month-by-month basis at a cost ranging between 700-2,000 shekels, depending on space requirements.
The location has struggled to find suitable use since Hamashbir moved to Jaffa Street in 2011. The renovation will completely change the structure, adding dozens of windows and a glass facade to the bottom floors, creating the kind of openness found in modern architecture.
There is no word on who is responsible for the project, nor has a completion date been provided; however, construction is currently underway.
